League Requirements
Adults - To qualify for the Adult League, you must be 16 years old or older, you must be a member of the Dan River Grand Prix Driver's Club. You must have qualified for Super Kart and you must have raced a minimum of three Super Kart races with us. You must also demonstrate good sportsmanship and a respect for our rules of racing and conduct.
ALL LEAGUE RACERS WILL BE REQUIRED TO PROVIDE VERIFIABLE PROOF OF AGE BEFORE THEY WILL BE ALLOWED TO COMPETE..
League Race Formats
League registration begins at opening time.
You are allowed to purchase as many Super Kart sessions as you like until official activities start, but once official activities begin, league entrants will not be allowed to run any additional sessions until the league racing is over for that night.
There are no limits to the number of drivers that can enter a league. If we have more than 10 drivers, we will split the racers into multiple groups based on qualifying times. For example, if we have 16 drivers register we will split the group into two qualifying sessions. The top eight qualifiers will be placed in one race group and the remaining qualifiers will be placed in the second race group. If we have an odd number of drivers, we will place the odd number in the second race group. If we have more that than 20 drivers, we will run three race groups and simply split the qualifying times into three groups. Regardless of the number of race groups we run each nights, all points will still accrue to the championship. Using the example above, if we run two race groups, we will be awarding 1st place points (etc.) for the two separate league races that night.
The league format for each league race will be as follows:
1.
QUALIFYING - Randomly assigned kart. One 5-lap timed qualifying session. Max 10 drivers per qualifying session.
2.
RACE 1 – Draw kart number. Grid in fastest qualifying time order. 10 Laps.
3.
RACE 2 – Draw kart number. Grid based on an inverted finish order of Race 1. 10 Laps.
4.
RACE 3 – Draw kart number. Grid based on finish order of Race 2. 10 Laps.

In the event of a tie in points, the tie breaker will be the number of 1st place finishes, then 2nd place finishes, and so on. If there is still a tie after using all finish positions, we will have a single tie breaker race among all remaining tied drivers. A league night that has to be canceled, regardless of reason, WILL NOT be made up. If the league is ended early, champions will be determined based on points accrued prior to ending the league. If no drivers enter a league night, no points will be scored that night but the league will continue to be "open" to drivers until the series either concludes of the series is ended by DRGP. We will only run a league night if we have three or more entries.
Medalions will be awarded to the top three point earners each night.
A single League Championship Trophy will be awarded to the overall league championion.
Additional prizes and/or awards *may* be presented.
General League Rules
- All of our current DRGP Rules apply to all Leagues races.
- The goal of the league is to have fun and enjoy kart racing with some great drivers. Poor sportsmanship and bad behavior will not be tolerated. Our League Racing program is not a democratic process. At best the program can be described as a "benevolent dictatorship". The ONLY rights you have when you race here are those defined by our rules and any exceptions granted by the DRGP Staff.
- Your League Race Entry Fee includes one practice session, one qualifying session, and three league races.
- Your entry fee is for the "league night". Once you run any league session, no refund, partial or otherwise, will be given and no partial credit will be offered if you are unable to complete all league racing activities.
- For the races, kart assignments will be made by a random kart number draw. Substitution WILL NOT be made if you draw the same kart number more than once per night. That is simply the "luck of the draw".
- All penalty assessments and race results are FINAL and there is NO APPEAL PROCESS. If you aren't happy, you can have a discussion with the DRGP Staff, but understand that we are on a tight schedule and no one is going to retire or get picked up by a NASCAR team here. The decisions made by the DRGP Staff are final and no results will be changed to correct any perceived wrong penalty call. Dealing with the decisions of the DRGP Staff are a part of racing!
- There are no "do overs". If you draw a kart that has a mechanical malfunction, that is what we refer to simply as "racing luck". We do our best to provide you the best equipment possible, but remember that you are racing equipment that during the day is used as an arrive-and-drive rental fleet. We do not guarantee you will get a perfect kart every time out. In fact, we don't even guarantee that any kart you compete in will complete a race! And while we encourage you to let us know about any mechanical issues you experience, complaining about the quality of our karts or our maintenance routines will simply not be tolerated. If you get frustrated over a kart race and start making the evenings stressful for those around you, you risk being eliminated from the league. It's that simple.
- If the course goes full course caution, YOU MAY ONLY PASS disabled karts. If you pass another running kart after the caution comes out, you must immediately give that position back or you will be placed at the back of the field.
- Any kart that stops due to mechanical break down or damage may cause the race to be stopped to have the kart removed from the course.
- Restarts will be rolling restarts unless otherwise determined by the DRGP Staff.
- If a driver initiates any retaliation of any on-track incident, whether on course or otherwise, or any guest of a driver initiates any retaliation, whether physical or verbal, the driver will be penalized and moved to last place in his race. Repeat incidents will result in that driver being expelled from the league. Mishandling ANY DRGP equipment, including throwing helmets, will result in loss of all points for that evening's races.
- You will be responsible for ALL costs to repair or replace any DRGP equipment that you or any of your guests damage. Damages include our labor costs to repair or replace the damaged property.
- There will be no switching of karts at any time after you have drawn your kart number.
- Aggressive driving is not acceptable. You MAY NOT bump someone out of your way. The determination of what is considered aggressive driving rests with the DRGP staff and their determination is final. And please, don't even think about using the phrase "rub'n is rac'n". We all know that is just an excuse used by drivers that don't have enough talent to make a clean pass!
- Once the DRGP Staff has made a ruling, the topic is closed.
- A standing Blue Flag is an informational flag to make you aware that the leaders are approching you. A WAVING blue flag means that the leader is about to pass and you must move over and give way to leader.
- A waving white flag indicates the start of the final lap of the race. If the Starter is unable to display the white flag and/or checker for any reason, the race shall still end at the completion of the final lap.
- The race shall be determined to be concluded when the checker flag is waved, even if the Starter waves the checker before the final lap has been completed. If The Starter misses the leader, the checker will be assumed to have been presented to the leader.
- If there are any issues with the timing and scoring system, the finishing order shall be as determined by the DRGP Staff.
- All rules are subject to change at any time, with our without advance notice, at the sole discretion of the DRGP Staff.
YOU PARTICIPATE AT YOUR OWN RISK.
Race Start Procedures
League Races will be Standing, or "Grid Start" races. The start procedure will be as follows:
1.
The red start lights will be illuminated.
2.
Cars will be gridded on the straight in the start boxes based on their qualifying order.
3.
Once all the drivers are in their proper grid positions and indicate they are ready, the red lights will be turned off.
4.
A few seconds later the green lights will be turned on. The race starts when the green lights are turned ON!
5.
Drivers may pass other karts prior to the start finish line ON THE INITIAL RACE START.
6.
If for any reason the race start needs to be suspended prior to the green lights being turned on, the red lights will either remain on, or be turned back on. The race will not be declared as "started" until the green lights are turned on.
7.
Drivers who move prior to the green light being turned on (false start) will be subject to a stop and go penalty at the descretion of the DRGP Staff.
| |
Race Procedures
In the event of a full course caution, the green lights will go out and be replaced with yellow lights. During all full course cautions, the leader shall have the responsibility of controlling the pace of the field. The leader shall run at "half speed" and, as directed by course workers, slower through the incident area.
Race restarts will be single file rolling restarts that commence when the green start lights are turned back on. The leader must maintain pace speed until he/she passes the final turn and sees the green lights come back on. YOU MAY NOT PASS ANOTHER KART PRIOR TO THE START FINISH LINE DURING A RACE RESTART. This rule is designed to keep drivers in the back of the field from making overly aggressive restarts in the last turn coming on to the front straight.
Drivers passing before the start finish line on race restarts will be subject to a stop and go penalty at the descretion of the DRGP Staff.
Any driver that is black flagged must go immediatetly to the penalty box and come to a complete stop at the white line in the penalty box. After coming to a complete stop, the driver may return to racing.
If the race is stopped, the start lights will be changed to red. The DRGP Staff will make the determination as to whether the race will be restarted. Races stopped will be scored based on the last completed race lap prior to the race being stopped. Races that are stopped prior to half distance may be continued or restarted at the descretion of the DRGP Staff.
